Take nothing for granted
Today was the beginning of the Head Prefect Elections 05 (HPE .05). Extensive coding was complete, testing was carried out and we were all set to start the elections.
Carried out a quick run through the system 5 mins before the elections were open. All systems go. Deployed the probates and prefects to their respective rooms and prepared to sit back, relax, and enjoy my automated system feed me up to the minute updates on whats going on.. All was well…
And then BAM! Connections to the voting system (on jonaize.com) started dropping like ripe durians off the durian tree. Drop. Drop. Drop. Gateway Timeout.
Damn. I thought my server had crashed, Nope. I thought my script was down, Nope. I thought I was being DDoSed (attacked if you don’t know what DoS is), Nope. So what the fish was wrong?!?!??!
Panic. Tries everything in my power to restore access. Failed. Got a prefect to ask someone to test my server from his computer. Works fine. EH?!?!?!?!?!?
Ok. To cut a long story short, MOE (or a server upstream from them) decided to block access to jonaize.com. Wonderful. Called off the first round of elections, started contemplating what would be the next best course of action.
Finally decided to recode the system to port it to the VS server. So with renewed determination, and a whole 3 hours to do it, I set down and got to work, aided along by the loud laughter, signing and gossiping of those in the room.
End result: system ported (though not fully) and I managed to get the e-lect system up and running. Very messy, very inconvenient, extremely stressful, but no choice.
Moral of the story: Take nothing for granted. Account for everything. Bah, some lessons need to be learned the hard way…
Back to Work
Ok, now that I’ve confirmed that I’ll be withdrawing from VJC, I’m starting to shift my priorities back to Jonaize. Which means good news for cBoard users (who will be swimming in new features very soon) and bad news for my morality, as I really should continue to put in my 100% towards classes in VJ.
I’ve been busy these past few days coding (enhancing really) the script for the Head Prefect Elections 05. With an improved interface and a ton more security features. And potentially a new voting registration and tracking system as well. Fun, fun, fun.
18 May is the tentative date for my withdrawal. I’m not exactly looking forward to it though, already becoming attached to my class and the school. Nonetheless, I WILL scale the rockwall before I leave. Its do or die. Anyone want to join me? Wall opens on Tuesdays, but I don’t think I’ll try this week, got tournament on wednesday, not like I will be playing though. Oh well, we’ll see..
“We do not return to you, mother,
Because we never really left.”
Official Beta release of cBoard!
cBoard is now available for beta testing (Stage 1a). Many thanks to my sister, Farand, Kenneth and Jafnie for being the very first few beta testers and for bearing with me while I worked out the kinks and ghosts in the system.

24 Hours : It just ain’t enough
Yupp. 24 hours a day is simply too short. As of late especially, with one more client to satisfy, i guess Jonaize is growing. But sadly that growth is slow. Hopefully my namecards will be done soon, *hint*hint* and then I can start promoting Jonaize more aggressively.
But then again, to be more aggressive than I already am, I need some capital. And no, I can’t just walk into a bank and request for a loan, hell I can’t even register Jonaize till i’m 21. Youth Entreprenurship my ass.
As in really, I think the goverment doesn’t trust us teens enough. In the mass media, they wear their oh-so-formal looking suits and ties and try to tell us that their ‘children are the future of Singapore’ and ‘Teens voices must be heard’ and more empty words yet they go ahead and put in place more red tape, making it harder for teens to do anything. Even the minium age for getting a driving license has been increased.
Whats next? You can’t own a house till your 30? While I understand that some of these red tape help to protect society as a whole, I think that they should at least give teens more responsibility.
I just realised I’ve digressed from the main point of this post by quite a bit, so lets get back on track.
24 hours. 1 day. It’s not enough.
Lets breakdown my typical weekday….
Total time in a day: 24 hours.
Wake up at: 11am
Web Design while having lunch till 3.30. Leave for Work.
Work till 9.30. Reach home at 10.30.
Check mail, read web design / programming related articles will 12.
Develop Apps for Sites till 4. Workout and read till 5-6. Sleep
And I’m still behind in my training schdule. Why didn’t God make longer days?
Jonaize
Okie. Almost done with revised content for the Jonaize Corporate site. Figured I needed to revamp the site after getting over 60 unique visitors and not having any of them use the quotation form.
A few things will change with the new Jonaize site.
* The Jonaize Logo has been modified to Jonaize Web Solutions.
* 3 new pages and 1 page removed.
* A new Flash banner
* Faster loading pages.
Hopefully, people will get motivated to use the quotation form or even just contact me.
And if that wasn’t enough to bore you, I’ll be coming up with an online article once a week regarding web design, the IT sector and of course, FIREFOX!
On to my life, just came back from training (yes I’m still going for training), and I think I’m finally beginning to get back in shape. Managed to win all the 3 matches I played today, 2 singles and one double. Shall train harder to be able to take on those that I can’t seem to win.
