KOREF Level Camps

Alright. Brief period of inspiration to blog, so I had might as well capitalise on it before I drown myself in the sorrow of my GPA again.

VS Sec 3 Level Camp (5th to 8th) followed by Yishun Town Sec 3 Level Camp (8th to 11th). First time I’ve spent a week running camps in Malaysia (minus 7th night when I came back so as to bring YTSS to KOREF on the 8th).

VS Camp. Started off with a bit of delays because of the bus arrangements, but made up for it throughout the day. Day 1 was rather boring for the campers though. We had to reschedule quite last minute since VS was not going to the Malaysian school for games. Was assigned to Asli Water Obstacles for Day 2 and 3 with John Cheo and Ren An (SL). Really had fun there. =) Hope the campers had fun too.

Got my (relatively bad) results on the 7th. Shall stop there. Left before campfire (dammit) to head back to SG.

YTSS Sec 3 Level Camp. Campers were damn high and quite enthu, so sorta managed to push my results to the back of my mind and concentrate on running the camp. Was assigned to orienteering this time, not too exciting, but hey, some things just have to be done.

Both camps were, overall, rather fun. Got to know quite a few more ‘green shirts’ as well as the VS and YTSS Student Leaders. Really fun people. And who can forget the game of Polar Bear on the last night. Heh. Good memories.

Ok. There goes my inspiration. Thus that’s all I shall write.

EOA Field Trip

Went on my first 1-day Field Trip for EOA yesterday. Brought some students from Temasek Sec to KOREF (for those in the loop, think Organic Rice).

I must say 1-Day Field Trips are fun. Nothing (much) to pack, nothing much to prepare for.

We actually got stuck for a while at the Malaysia Customs as the Guide (aparently all SG registered busses need a Malaysian Guide by law) was told that the trip was on Sunday. The driver was able to find a replacement but not before wasting quite a bit of time at the customs.

Reached back at about 10+. Learnt a lot about Waste Management, Sustainable Development and the whole ‘cycle’ of nature from Choon Meng, the other EOA Instructor. Other then that, not a very happening day so why I blogged it is beyond me.

Maybe I just wanna blog more frequently then the hordes of ppl I know who have yet to update their blog since time began. hehehe. =p

Manjusri Camp @ Mawai

Came back yesterday. It was fun. The campers were enthu about the activities, and running it was a breeze.

First day had Asli Traps and Swamp Walk. Though it was more like desert walk thanks to the weather.

Climbed G. Tunjuk Laut on the 2nd day, which I found much easier then Panti and Lambak. Was no kick really. Campfire was fun. I’ve honestly not had that much fun at a campfire (in the capacity of an Instructor) for quite a while.

Last day had Water Obstacles. Toh Wee and I kept bullying Jocelyn. He went in to get her hair wet too. Heh, but I felt quite bad about it lah. Fruit plantation after that and back to SG.
Heard this song before at Mawai 2 years back, but forgot about it until Kwok Peng played it on the guitar again. So I hunted the song down. Here it is: ‘Anak’ by Freddie Aguilar. (Its written in tagalog, and it is about a child prodigy gone astray)

Nang isilang ka sa mundong ito
Laking tuwa ng magulang mo
At ang kamay nila ang iyong ilaw
At ang nanay at tatay mo’y
Di malaman ang gagawin
Minamasdan pati pagtulog mo
At sa gabi’y napupuyat ang iyong nanay
Sa pagtimpla ng gatas mo
At sa umaga nama’y kalong ka
Ng iyong amang tuwang-tuwa sa iyo

Ngayon nga ay malaki ka na
Nais mo’y maging malaya
Di man sila payag
Walang magagawa

Nalaman mong ika’y nagkamali
Nagsisisi at sa isip mo’y
Nalaman mong ika’y nagkamali
Nagsisisi at sa isip mo’y
Nalaman mong ika’y nagkamali
Nagsisisi at sa isip mo’y
Nalaman mong ika’y nagkamali
