Missing

Its funny. Something I’ve been missing all this while since I left Victoria just hit me on the bus ride back today.

I really miss the head-on, 1 on 1 competition against another human being that I used to enjoy back then as a member of the VS Badminton Team. If you’ve ever participated, for an extended period of time, in any (1 on 1) competitive sport, I’m sure you’ll appreciate that surreal feeling that only those type of competitions bring about.

Truly Surreal. For the entire duration of the match, its just you, the instruments of play, and your opponent. For me it was my racket, the shuttlecock, and the guy (or girl when the TKGS team came over for friendlies) in the opposite court. Nothing else mattered.

Not my homework (believe me I always had a LONG list of backlogged homework in my secondary school days).
Not the VS cheers echoing throughout the hall.
Not even the fact that I had to skip lessons and fall behind (even more).
Not the fact that my coach would probably have skinned me alive if I lost.

Nothing else but going all out, performing to your best, and then giving it some more. Don’t know if I’ll ever experience that sensation again, but damn it was good while it lasted.

A game of badminton anyone?

Badminton

Joined my dad and his ‘kakis’ for Badminton on Tuesday. Its been way too long since I last played (which was June 10th btw).

For some weird reason, my reaction to smashes directed towards me was freaky. It was somewhat like when I was at my peak eons ago. Scary.

Then there’s the whole issue of the new 21 point scoring system, which is quite weird as I was brought up on the 15 point one; but oh well, even badminton has to commercialise I guess.

Signed up for a badminton competition in mid Oct, mostly because I needed an excuse to force myself off my ass and get some excercise. I need to work on my stamina and accuracy though. Most of my shots were half-court (which explains the smashes), and I was pretty worn out after just 2 games.

Its been almost a year now. Gosh, time does pass fairly quickly. Time past but not forgotten.

The virus I coded for Computron programming task is attacking my own robots. Damn.

Joined my dad for badminton last Friday. I (re-)remembered why I love that beautiful (racket) game.

ASSignments and more ASSignments. The evil of Poly Life. Then again, JCs have PW, so yeah.

Badminton Camp

Just back from badminton camp. It was fun. Planning by Naresh was alright I guess, given the lack of support he had.

But all in all I enjoyed the company of Victorians beyond all else.

From the staying up till 4 to wait for Mac (Donalds) to be delivered, to the getting sprayed with water by my juniors. From the campfire that almost went bad to the training that I was begining to miss. It was fun.

Shape

Or rather the lack of shape. My body muscles are right now aching like nobody’s business after badminton on Thursday and Friday. Sigh. It confims my fears that I am totally and utterly out of shape.

Even while playing the past 2 days, I was tired out after just the first match I played. After just ONE match. I think just about every one of my juniors can trash me flat after that first match. I suppose it’s punishment for not excercising regularly.

Oh well, Mid-Sem tests looming just around the corner. Gotta stay ahead of the game.
