Hotmail Down

Sure, shit happens. Servers go down all the time, networks get congested and the whole lock, stock and barrel.

But can’t it happen on a day when I’m not so kan chong to open my mail and check my results? Sheez!

Aparently Hotmail’s been up and down quite a bit recently, should have set the email that SP should send me the results to my Gmail instead. Lesson learnt, but then again I’ve got no more result emails from SP, this one being my last. heh.

*update*

Finally! A window opens and I’m able to check my Hotmail (and thus my results)!  A for ITP, so I’m officially going to receive my Diploma in May with a GPA of 3.986  ( damn la, was hoping for ITP to bring it up to 3.988 or 3.990 at the very least. Basket. =(  )

Airshow

Went Airshow (Trade Day) with JE. First time there, and as such was an interesting experience. Planes up close look a heck of a lot better than the pictures / TV.

Rather efficient organisation, registration cleared rather pronto, no major screw-ups / problems that I could identity. So kudos to Singapore Airshow.

Phish – youareblocked.com

If you get an email similar to the following :

You’re Blocked!

A contact has recommended you to enter in www.youareblocked.com.
The site allows you to find out who has blocked or deleted you from the MSN Messenger

This e-mail comes to your inbox, since you have been recommended by one of your contacts

with the subject of “Somebody has blocked you at MSN Messenger”, please DO NOT give your password to that site. Seems like a phishing attempt to steal MSN passwords. It don’t really affect me if you want to lose access to your MSN account, but if you have my Hotmail address saved in your contact list, for goodness sake please don’t even think about giving those sites your password, since they’ll prob just extract your contact list (my email included) and sell that data to spammers.

Other sites include :

WTF/min

The only valid measurement of code quality: WTF/min
[from http://www.osnews.com/comics]

You may laugh, but I’ve experienced my fair share of WTF/min over the past 4+ years of programming. And when fixing them involves lengthy check-in procedures (Internship) or having to refactor other parts of the code (FYP), the joke’s on the poor soul who ended up doing Q&A / Code Review.

The problem is, the programming modules I’ve come into contact with don’t place too much emphasis on writing ‘good code’, instead aiming for ‘working code’. While I suppose ‘working code’ is the prerequisite to ‘good code’, by instilling ‘good code’ practices to begin with, you automatically get ‘working code’. Granted the initial learning curve might be a little steep, but the advantage of training students who are able to produce code that, simply put, don’t result in many (or any hopefully) WTF/min is worth the effort.
