VS 130 Celebrations
It was cool.
Will blog more about it when i finally conquer the stupendous mountain of work that is our Poly Assignments. Though I’m am admittedly worried that my next post (about VS130) could potentially be considered seditious. And we all know what happens to Singaporians who post seditious remarks in thier blogs. Oh well, lets see.
Happy 130th anniversary VS!
Data loss on jonaize.com
At about 2am Singapore time today (10th July 05), the finals of the Fifa World Cup kicked off. Moments before that, my web host emailed to tell me that they, in essense, lost ALL data as a result of some complications in their hardware.
Thus you can see that my blog’s layout and skin isn’t what it used to be. Some (internal) services on jonaize.com are down for the forseable future and I’ve lost data of relative importance on the server which I had yet to backup on my computer. Worse of all, cBoard tags were lost.
If you’re a cBoard user, you’d prob. have heard this a couple of times already. I’m extremely sorry for the mishap. Aparently not all users got the email I pushed out (prob. due to a cranky mail server), so I’ll replicate it below for those who didn’t receive it.
======== cBoard Data Loss ========
Dear cBoard user,
I regret to inform you that the server that cBoard was hosted on experienced some difficulties and encountered Hard Drive errors that not even a RAID-10 was able to recover from (or so says my webhost). As a result, they lost all data and with it, cBoard tags.
I’m not pinning the blame on them as it is actually my responsibility as a service provider to make backups myself, instead of relying solely on my webhost. In that aspect I have faltered, and for that I offer my sincere apologies. The last full backup of cBoard was done on the 25th of December 2005. Your account details, however, were backed up about a week ago and have been restored accordingly.
What this basically means is that your tags are now about 7 months old. In light of the extreme age of the tags, I’ve left all cBoards empty. I completely understand if you have lost faith in cBoard, and if you wish to discontinue using this free service, simply drop me a line.
Nonetheless, life must go on and cBoard will still be offered free for those who wish to continue. God only knows how much I wish I could go back in time just a few days and do a complete backup of my data. But alas, that is not possible. Such is the price I pay for overconfidence.
A good friend reminded me, “Once bitten, twice shy”. And yes, we all must learn from our mistakes. From this day forth, cBoard tags will be backed up weekly (at the very least).
Once again, my sincere apologies for the loss and inconvenience. It is one that you should not have to bear. I do however, look forward to your continued support, should you find it in your heart to do so.
Blog Update
Ah, I can finally click the checkbox that’s beside the ‘Blog’ Catagory. Have not done that in a long while.
If you have not already noticed (or still seeing the old version in which case you should force refresh), I changed the header pic in celebration of the 130th Anniversary of Victoria School. Apologies if it looks a bit off as I only could afford about 10 mins to work on it. =)
In other news, congrats to my sis on her commencement. =D
Poly Rocks
See the Assignments Due under the ‘Countdown’ column on the left.
Does Poly rock or what?
Finally motivated
I’m finally motivated to blog. The past few months have seen me having much to blog about but absolutely no motivation to do so. So thus, many would be posts have gone to the place where blog posts go when they are not posted.
The past week has been one hell of a hectic one. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were Mid Sem Tests (MSTs). Monday’s MDAD was managable, Tuesday’s ISNS was quite good (as in after going though the questions on Friday, I think I can get a A for it).
Wednesday’s ECOM was good, but there’s this 12 mark question that asked for E-Commerce software and I gave the 3 E-commerce suites (IBM Websphere, Sun ONE Server, MS E-commerce Server). Hope that’s accepted. Then had project meeting, GEMs and a haircut after the paper before meeting up with a client. After which saw the Mgmt Comm of the MIT Club having a dinner outing.
Back to normal school on Thursday, went for Poly50 training after school. So a little shagged, esp since I had been sleeping late the past few days. Friday was AGM, damn hectic during the leadup to the AGM, damn panic just before the AGM and quite disappointing during and after. But I don’t really want to get into it.
Righto, on to the highlight of the week! I finally caught the SYF Opening Ceremony on Saturday. Imagine that; 4 years in VS and not once have I watched it. Then again, I had an added incentive this year. =) Many thanks to Jocelyn for the tickets. =D
Saw Kevin in his No.1 while waiting for Toh Wee to arrive too. Was looking for Yen Lin but didn’t see her. Saw Jocelyn as she marched out though. Hahaz.
Oh, and yes, had dinner with Cheng Kai whom I bumped into at LJS. Totally didn’t realise that the girl with him was Ada, whom I got to know caus she tags on a lot of cBoards, and can’t see Mansoors cBoard sometimes. Just found out when Mansoor pointed to her tag and I went to see her blog post.
I’ve got CYA tonight and tomorrow night. And so that basically sums up the week. I think its been quite a while since I last posted these ‘updates on my life’ kind of posts. Last one was a brief one on the 10th of June. So if you’d notice the pattern, the next few posts would likely be ranting about some topic like the privacy and success posts below.
That is, of course, if I can find time to sneak in those posts now that a ton of ASSignments are approaching their due date.
