Elections
I’ve been following the political scene quite a bit lately, more so then I would have ever imagined getting myself into. The fact that one (possibly) might have to vote at the next GE does wonders for one’s involvement in politics.
It’s interesting really. Political parties battling it out in the elusive pursuit of votes. Mansoor’s got a very interesting (and also very true IMHO) view of things in his latest blog post. Other sites more or less echo his sentiments.
After watching the Party Political Broadcast, this much is certain. The purpose of an opposition is not to tear down the institutions / organisations that already exist in society. And if I may be so bold as to say that such institutions / organisations that are in place seem to be working fine in SG. Then again, I’m not employed and I’m under 21 and thus don’t vote so what weight can my words possibly carry aye?
But all things aside, it’s truly fun to watch the elections and all the issues and incidences that it’s web spins.
In other, but by no means less important, news, the VS Head Prefect Elections is around the corner with a new election system and cool publicity. So watch out for it.
I’m rather worried though. More features and security precautions pave the way for more problems. Like for one, I’ve no idea if the school’s computers have the .NET framework 1.1 installed and if the firewall there is going to block outgoing connections to my database and web server. Then there’s the whole issue of MOE’s proxy servers blocking access to my domain like what happened last year. Oh well, briefing’s on Friday. We’ll see.
