Effective Interpersonal Communication

I think I’m experiencing the usual school-has-started-and-I-don’t-feel-like-going-to-school syndrome. Had a very long day today but thankfully my first lesson (tutorial) setup the stage for the rest of the day.

It was my General Elective Module, Effective Interpersonal Communication (Yes, its the one area I’m sorely lacking in and thus I took the class).

It was very cool.

We were told to list down the items that were in our bag and the reason that we carried it around. At first I thought it was kinda dumb, but then the followup of that was certantly enlightening. My list was as follows (copied verbatim):

File – Store docs
Pencil Box – For the rare occasions where I need to write something down
Earphones – Audio (MP3)
Landyard – No choice
Calc – Not sure

Watch – Time
Specs – Vision
HP – Contact
PDA – Organiser / Entertainment
Mouse -
Laptop – IT Needs

VS Badge – caus VS Rocks

The followup highlighted the reasons why we carry around our HP. I bet you, my dear reader, never ONCE stopped to think about why you carry around your HP. So ppl can contact you? So you can contact ppl? Why would you need to do that?

Then there was this excercise where we were given 3 words and were asked to choose the one that most closely resembled ourselves. Learnt quite a bit about myself from that.

Google Rankings

HELL YEAH!!

The VS Open House site is ranked #1 on Google for “Victoria School Open House” and #2 for “VS Open House. Yahoo, on the other hand, simply refuses to list the site at all unless I pay an exorbitant amount for _Inclusion_ into the directory. So much for Web Directories..

VS Open House Website

Okie, I’ve decided to ‘launch’ the open house website first, then wait for the content from Mr Maran.

If you guys reading this have blogs, do link to it (http://openhouse.vs.moe.edu.sg/) using the words Victoria School Open House. So when people do a search for ‘Open House’, guess which school comes out tops? :D

I’ve just realised that doing Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and promotion of the Open House site isn’t exactly a piece of cake.

There are tons (and I mean _TONS_) of schools in the world with ‘Victoria’ in their names. And the phrase ‘Open House’ isn’t easy to contend with either, since there are like 22.7 million sites on Google (global) for ‘Open House’.

Sigh, should have started SEO earlier.

When East and West Meet

I shall not talk about my EOA assignment to Mawai. Heart ache..

On the brightside, I managed to get a 4.0 for my GPA, with 4 Distinctions and an A (for Maths, how ironic). So I guess I’m happily having a heartache..

Now just need to maintain my 4.0 cumalative GPA and I suppose I should be fine. Then again, life is uncertain, so yeah.
