Shape

Or rather the lack of shape. My body muscles are right now aching like nobody’s business after badminton on Thursday and Friday. Sigh. It confims my fears that I am totally and utterly out of shape.

Even while playing the past 2 days, I was tired out after just the first match I played. After just ONE match. I think just about every one of my juniors can trash me flat after that first match. I suppose it’s punishment for not excercising regularly.

Oh well, Mid-Sem tests looming just around the corner. Gotta stay ahead of the game.

-Victorian-

Went back for training today, man it felt good to be back training with my badminton juniors, one of whom might not be in VS next year. (yes, if you’re reading this and think its you, it probably is :D ). And we (being the Badminton Team) already lost a teammate last year. Think I shall take a moment to pen down my thoughts of IP so pls bear with me.

(V)IP. I guess it’s ultimately up to the individual to decide if he wants to leave VS, though I wouldn’t go if given the chance. But then again, I can’t really say as we didn’t have IP back when we were in Sec 2, and my MSG was nowhere within a 100 miles of the required MSG.

Call me selfish but I think it robs VS of Victorians with amazing talent. All the IPers that I know whom went for IP last year were simply amazing and held a ton of potential. So if they go to VJ or wherever not, what’s to become of VS?

Take away the talent and intelligence representing the top percentage of the cohort and you eliminate the competition, the drive that Victorians have to trash their friends flat and the positive rivalry that lifts up the standard of the cohort as a whole.

Then there’s the whole issue of missing VS Sec 3 and Sec 4 life, which in essence is the time where character and self identity is cultured and where friendships with unimaginable bonds is forged while mugging (read: suffering) together for Os and cheering during Track and Cross.

But I would be foolish to neglect the positive side of IP. Those in IP (or at least the VIPers) really gain a whole lot more exposure then your average Sec 3 / 4 student. Hell the VIPers went to Japan. They learn things far beyond the scope of normal education (which is a good thing) and get to do things few others do.

So yes, I guess IP is an experience in itself, a challenge out of the ordinary. But must IP equate to leaving VS? Why can’t they spend their 2 years in VS, learning the syllabus akin to the ‘external’ IP and at the end of their 4 year journey through VS, proceed to the agreed upon JC that accepted them when they were in Sec 2?

Ok, I think I should have more conversations with John Cheo. Was talking to him in the bus on the way home and yeah, he’s got a very matured and philosophical mind. Makes for an intriguing conversation.

First SP Class Outing

Today was my class’ very first outing. Went to some BBQ Steamboat at Marina South with our Personal Tutor (PT) for dinner. It was fun.

Spent quite a bit of time after the meal chatting with our PT using Java language rules and syntax. Haha.. Now that is my idea of fun.

Went bowling after that, needless to say I got trashed by everyone, our PT included. Oh well, perhaps shall get lessons from gary one day.. :p

On the way back, had a rather interesting conversation with a classmate. Can’t remember how we came to that topic, but we wondered what would happen if a guy (read: male) puts his PSLE school choices as girls schools. Interesting to find out what happens no? haha..

Going back to creating dynamically generated arrays in Java now. Sigh. Exams in a weeks time….

Hole in the heart

Yepp. Still sad of the passing of my grandma. But now its like the feeling is different. Not gone. Different.

I think its shifting from missing her dearly (which I still do) to that of knowing she’s always around me, watching. Thats good I guess.

Speach Day tomorrow, gonna be funny receiving prize in smart casual attire while (almost) everyone else will be wearing their college’s blazer if not the VJ blazer, but thats the choice I made when I left VJ. But thats for another day.

Starting to feel the pressure of exams, which are on the 1st to 3rd Aug. Sigh, time to start mugging again…

Track and Field 05

Yeah. Today was the track and field finals. Headed to Chua Chu Kang Stadium after class, skipping training and some talk about one of the options for my IT course.

Damn, missing training for 2 weeks already, but I have things higher up in my list of priorities, namely VS related events. :)

Track was OK. Can’t say that it was great though. Perhaps its because of the seemingly disorganised state of the instructors / leaders. Perhaps its because for the first time, I didn’t have anything to do other then cheer. Perhaps because it was not held in Nat Stadium. Perhaps I’m just changing. I don’t know. Just didn’t feel the same as previous years track.

Speech day on Saturday. Whee!!
