SMS.AC : Scam?
Been getting quite a few invites from people I know inviting me to join SMS.AC, the Supposedly free SMS provider.
As I do for all things that require a signup, I googled for it. Lets just say I didn’t like what I found. There were countless warnings from blogs, legal sites ect that SMS.AC is a scam. One particular site, www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff102047.htm contains a lengthy complain, rebuttal, complain, rebuttal.
The people there seemed to be attacking the company a little too aggressively so I went over to the SMS.AC site to check it out.
Firstly, the site blurs the line between ‘free’ and ‘premium’ SMSes, so basically, if I sent out a message through them, I wouldn’t know if it was a free message or a premium one. And that sacres me, esp after seeing the price of premium SMSes (50c).
Futhermore, the site doesn’t seem to have a decent privacy policy that is backed by a reliable source (Truste) and the registration page, where people are to enter their hotmail email and password, is not encrypted by SSL. A WHOIS lookup revealed that the domain had been registered since October 25 2000. Over 4 years and no proper privacy policy and no SSL? Suspicious. Sending my password over an unsecure connection? No thank you.
Perhaps its one of those legal scams, perhaps they just have had a bout of bad publicity. Whatever the case, I just don’t trust them.
To those who invited me to join their network in SMS.AC, sorry, no can do.
Firefox Exploitable? Not a chance!
Just read in The Sunday Times, Click Section (page 36 of Feb 13’s Sunday Times) that there is a “Security Flaw” in Firefox. Yeah. About time.
You’re prob wondering why I just said about time, aren’t I supporting Firefox? Your dead right I am.
Ok. Reason I said about time is that this is the first real wide spread test on the security of Firefox. And how was the situation handled? It took just 12 hours from the time the exploit was made public for a fix to be found. The patched version (for those overly paranoid as the fix effectively fixes the problem) is already available.
Mozilla and Firefox fixes exploit, 12 hours later. Thats right. 12 hours. 12 with a capital ‘T’. And if you read the article I mentioned in todays paper. There is no mention of this fix. I thought newspapers were supposed to INFORM. Bah. The editors obviously didn’t do their homework.
LAGGING. Just the word to describe how Microsoft handles holes: LAGGING. Why it takes months for them to fix anything is beyond me. Then again, it IS M$ that we are talking about, so no surprises there..

Power to Mozilla. Where holes get patched and news on how to fix it spread like wildfire. Such is the beauty of Firefox.
Jonaize
Okie. Almost done with revised content for the Jonaize Corporate site. Figured I needed to revamp the site after getting over 60 unique visitors and not having any of them use the quotation form.
A few things will change with the new Jonaize site.
* The Jonaize Logo has been modified to Jonaize Web Solutions.
* 3 new pages and 1 page removed.
* A new Flash banner
* Faster loading pages.
Hopefully, people will get motivated to use the quotation form or even just contact me.
And if that wasn’t enough to bore you, I’ll be coming up with an online article once a week regarding web design, the IT sector and of course, FIREFOX!
On to my life, just came back from training (yes I’m still going for training), and I think I’m finally beginning to get back in shape. Managed to win all the 3 matches I played today, 2 singles and one double. Shall train harder to be able to take on those that I can’t seem to win.
Surprise! I went for a jog
Ok, so it was after much persuasion from my dad. But nonetheless I still went.
Wow! I went for a jog. Never thought I’ll blog that line for some time to come. Though my stamina is really decreasing. I ran just 3 rounds and I was out of breath. So in total I ran 3.5 rounds around the Serangoon Stadium and walked the rest of the distance back to the fitness area.
I was telling Firdy that perhaps I should start jogging at night when I come back from work. He said I’m nuts, but then again, with my crazy schdule of sleeping at about 4 and waking up about midday (I would really have to be crazy to run at 1pm), there simply isn’t much time that convenient for me to jog.
Thats if I have the discipline to get off my ass and go for a jog in the first place.
Firefox: Rediscover the Web
Ok, been wanting to post this for a very long time now. Finally got around to doing it.
I am quite disheartened to see so many ppl who visit this blog use IE to do so. WHY use IE??
It crashes, has ActiveX (which allows malicious software to be downloaded and installed on your computer without you knowing) and a host of security holes (read: BAD for your computer).
Enter Mozilla Firefox. The new generation browser. Its free, painless to use, got much better features and support than the stupid IE. Get Firefox. Take the first step. Make the switch. Take back the web.
