A Victorian Finals
Ok, this is a detailed post on the Finals today, the last post was made in the Hostel, and I had to rush off to attend to something.
Before I start talking about the feelings and emotions that the match brought, I shall list the blow-by-blow details of what happened for the benefit of those who weren’t there. (Remember, if you weren’t there, I’m still tracking you down)
Started off well, Victorians lined the gallery with mostly the team at the side of the court.
1st Singles: Collin (Won)
This was a relatively easy game for him, and so the supporters got warmed up for the long cheering session ahead.
1st Doubles: Jonathan and Tristan (spelling?) (Lost)
Good game, the pair fought hard, though the unforced errors at the end of the game was their downfall. Nonetheless, it was a good fight.
2nd Singles: Xuanhan (Won)
Perhaps the most exciting match. Both he and his opponent were more or less even, and thus the game went into a rubber set. Its obvious that Xuanhan gave his best, and then some more, and for that, I applaud him.
2nd Doubles: Kelvin and Willard (spelling?) (Lost)
Much improvement displayed in their play and overall strokes from the last game, though they were caught quite a few times due to miscommunication. They made the best of tough opponents (one of them having a really bastard face if you’ll excuse my language) and fought like true Victorians.
The decider:
3rd Singles: Jarod (WON)
Game with the most hype, being the decider and all.. Jarod was confident and played wonderfully.. Shots were well refined and accurate and thus, the AHS player didn’t have a chance.
And with that, it was decided..
VS C DIV: East Zone Champions
On to the emotional aspects.. Today, the cheering in the hall, the support from Victorians and the Spirit displayed.. It was overwhelming to say the least.
Its one thing to see other schools shout (or scream) their cheers but it is a totally different thing when you see a hundred over Victorians jumping up and down, stamping their feet and cheering their hearts out. The passion and spirit of it all was felt throughout the school, and perhaps even Siglap.
The cheers and chants never seem to grow old when coming out of the mouths of Victorians. The passion, spirit, emotion all combined… That is the Victorian Spirit.. I think that if you put Victorians cheering on one side of a field, and the New Zealand’s All Blacks doing the haka on the opposite side, the All Blacks will get scared off..
From the “Sasasasa Soh!, Why are we so pro, AHS tyco” to the new “VS Boleh” chant, from the supporters who, regardless of what level, screamed their hearts out, to the team and the coach who were encouraging and coaching the players, from the teachers who dropped by, to Mr Ang and Mr Low, it was an experience to remember and remembered it will be.
My heart goes out to the VS Badminton Team, both the B and C Div, for putting in such great effort, for courage in the face of adversity, for strength when weakness set in and for skill and dedication to the game. Rock on..
Its great to be Victorian..
