Poly Shopping (1 of 4) : Nanyang Poly

Went to Nanyang Poly yesterday. Here I’ll list my thoughts, not so much to blog, but more for my reference when I’m making my choice later on in Feb.

Ok. To be fair and more organised, I’ll be rating the polys based on the same criteria. All offer the same course (more or less) and I’ll take the same time to travel there, so those 2 are not a factor.

Initial Impressions:
Bad. As I was walking into the campus, I had to hold my breath. Not because the campus was so awesome, but because there were about 3 groups of students smoking along the walkway.

Friendliness:
The Lecturers were very friendly, the students helping out in the open house were friendly enough, but the rest of the students ( comprising of mostly the hard core Mats and Ah Bengs) gave me a feeling of hostility. Though I must say that of all the students in the School of IT, i didn’t see any of those kind of people (thankfully).

Campus:
I shan’t comment on the size, since the polys in general are large. No. Make that huge.. In terms of facilities, its pretty much what anyone could ask for. I just think the gyms too small though..

Course:
The course I was looking at seemed interesting, although I did feel that it would pretty much be slackish for me in the first year as then they only teach the foundations of IT. The people in the course seem commited in what they were doing, and thats a good sign. Wasn’t overly impressed by the final year projects (no insult intended) as they appeared to be more like a project I would have to do in VS, but perhaps its just me.

General Comments:
I guess its ok, but I can’t really judge untill i’ve seen the other schools. But it sure didn’t blow me away. It has a McDonalds inside that sells its meals for almost $2 less, but thats not the point. Most of the areas in the campus require a “smart card” to access. While I guess this is good security-wise, I dun think its very efficient if you’re in a rush or if youre someone who likes to simplify things.

Next up: Ngee Ann Poly (going there 2molo)
